Dorothy L. Joseph

Virginia Beach - Dorothy Joseph passed away in the one hundred and first year of her life on the morning of June 16. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur (Bill), her son Thomas and his wife Flo, her daughter Lee Eldridge and her husband Charles and her brothers James and Robert Horton. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Jeanine, five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Dorothy would like to thank her children for their love and support throughout the years, particularly her daughter Lee whom she called her pillar of strength. She would also like to thank her close and wonderful lifelong friends, among them Vic Caton, Blanche Steele and Jane Hansen. More recently, she treasured the friendship of Pat who was called back to England in death and most importantly, Herbert Rice, her loved and truest friend. In January, she joyfully celebrated her one hundredth birthday sounded by family and friends.

She was a dedicated pet love and volunteer. While living in Great Lakes, she volunteered for Navy Relief. She and her husband Bill delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and she was a Red Cross Blood Bank volunteer for twenty four years.

In lieu of flowers, give your love to one another. Share the wonderful gift of love and kindness with your family and friends. Donations may be made to the Virginia Beach SPCA to help the poor pets who cannot speak for themselves and in memory of the many pets Dorothy loved dearly especially her beautiful beloved Buddy who left her long ago and has waited patiently for her.

Burial will be private. There will be a celebration of her life between 2 and 3 p.m. on Friday June 20, at Virginia Beach Healthcare, her home of the last few years. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Rd Chapel is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made to the family at
