Edward J. Taylor

Portsmouth - Edward James Taylor of Hatton Point Lane in Cypress Cove passed away on July 2, 2014. He was born on June 2, 1928 in the Cradock section of Norfolk County. Edward was the son of the late George and Margaret Taylor. He was predeceased by a brother, Major George M. Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara S. Taylor; a daughter, Cecelia A. Taylor of Asheville, NC and a sister, Claire T. Hill of Portsmouth, VA.

He graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1945 and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprentice School as a machinist. Edward served during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 993 and the American Legion, Post 310. He retired from Ships Control Center as an Equipment Specialist after 37 years of government service. He also resided happily in his second home in Kitty Hawk, NC.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on Tuesday July 8th from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mario's Italian Restaurant, 611 Airline Blvd., Portsmouth, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, c/o 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or a .
