William J. Boyd

Virginia Beach - William J. Boyd, 88, gently and peacefully passed away at home on July 4, 2014, surrounded by his family. A native of Philadelphia, Bill lived in Virginia Beach since 1961. He retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1987 after 35 years of service. Bill was honored to serve his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet as a torpedoman onboard SS Entemedor. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joy Boyd. Left to cherish his memory are his three children: Suzanne Puryear and husband Michael Borysewicz of Norfolk; Michael Boyd and wife Polly of Virginia Beach; and Felicia Boyd and husband Dan Legett of Jacksonville Beach. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Kelly Larkin and husband Kevin; Adam, Lauren and Ashley Boyd; and Rebecca, Henry and Sam Legett, and four great grandchildren: Ashby and Seth Larkin, Branson Boyd and Colten Beasley. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Woodlawn Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norfolk SPCA, or to a . Bill's family would like to express their deep gratitude for the care provided by Sentara Hospice and Heartland Home Health caregivers, but most especially to Caren Zingraff, who became part of the family and another daughter to Bill through her love, care and concern over the past three years.
