Virginia Beach - Ann Marie Barritt, 43, passed peacefully into heaven on June 21 after a yearlong battle with head and neck cancer. Ann was the wife of Martin (22 years) and the proud and loving mother of Jacob and Emily. Ann, the daughter of Janet and Joe Moyer, was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She lived in Virginia all her life except for a brief time to attend the University of Central Florida and a few months with her husband in Cadillac, MI. Ann was a graduate of the 1988 class of Kempsville High School. Ann received her teaching degree from Norfolk State University and was licensed to teach grades NK-4. Later in her career Ann earned her English as a Second Language endorsement. Ann served the Virginia Beach City Public Schools system for 21 years. For the past 12 years, Ann worked at several beach schools as an itinerant ESL teacher. In November 2012, Ann was one of a select few VBCPS teachers to earn her National Board Certification. Ann was an active supporter of the local youth music ensembles to include Bay Youth Orchestra and the Governor's School for the Arts Orchestra and Big Band. Ann was preceded in death by her father Joe Moyer and her grandmothers Helen Moyer and Mildred Christensen. She is survived by her children, Jacob and Emily, her husband Martin, her brother Gary, and her mother Janet. Ann was a ray of sunshine to all that met her. She will be sorely missed by her friends, family, co-workers, and all the students she inspired. Funeral services for Ann were held at the Kempsville Church of Christ on June 25. She is laid to rest at the Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Norfolk.
