Reva A. Hairston-Wilson Obituary
Reva A. Hairston-Wilson

Norfolk - Reva A. Hairston- Wilson, 67, passed away in her home in Norfolk, surrounded by her family on Friday, July 11, 2014.

She was born on February 8, 1947 in Martinsville, VA to Eugene and Savannah (Hairston) Hobson, descendents of the largest slave family in Virginia. Reva left Martinsville with her parents and was lifelong resident of Norfolk. She attended Norfolk Public School.

She found stability working for Norfolk Public Schools as a bus driver and retired in 2009 with 33 years of loyal and dedicated service.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband James Wilson. Left to honor Reva and remember her love are brother Grover and Delcina Wilkerson; her six children, Randolph Henderson, Regina English, Betty Chavis, Bruce Hairston, Otis Hairston and Andrew Hairston; her twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Reva will be remembered as "Mama" by all who loved her. She was a shining light and safe harbor to her family and friends. Mama's life was a reflection of strife and tragedy; however, she was able to persevere and turn troubles into triumphs. Never surrounded by the trappings of wealth or privilege, she was content to call family her treasure and greatest accomplishment in life. Her epitaph will not be written on stone, but has already been scribed on the hearts of all that knew her in life.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, on Tuesday, July 22, at Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St, Norfolk.
