Virginia Beach - Robert Causey Shrieves, 73, of Virginia Beach went to his eternal home on July 27, 2014 and joined those who went before him.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late John Brady Shrieves and Virginia Causey Shrieves.
He is survived by his loving family: wife of 53 years, Sandra; two caring children: daughter, Laura Anne Jones and son-in-law, John; son, Robert Causey Shrieves, Jr and daughter-in-law, Cristina; and his fun-loving grandsons, Robert "Trey" Causey Shrieves III, Samuel Brady Shrieves, and Michael Jeffrey Shrieves.
He also leaves behind two beloved brothers: John Brady Shrieves, Jr, his wife, Marge of Georgetown, Delaware and Herbert Leonard Shrieves, his wife, Sheila of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Robert will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert graduated from Wicomico High School in Salisbury, Maryland, Class of 1958. He enlisted in the US Navy in August 1961. Upon completing basic training, he served aboard many destroyers and received valuable schooling throughout his career. He was a Vietnam Veteran and dedicated to serving his country for twenty years, retiring as the Command Master Chief at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dam Neck.
Upon retirement, his ensuing years were spent working at ManTech for 5 years as a government contractor. His next 18 years were spent as a computer specialist at NAVMASSO/ SPAWAR.
Robert was a member of Haygood UMC for 42 years, and also a member of Masonic Lodge #220.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday , 1 August 2014 at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to the service. The service will be held at Haygood United Methodist Church, 4713 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23455. Interment will be in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Maryland on Monday, 4 August 2014 at 1030am.
