John T. Curran

Portsmouth - John Thomas Curran, of Briarwood Lane, died Wednesday August 6, 2014.

Mr. Curran was born in Portsmouth, VA March 22, 1920, the son of the late Joseph F. and Nora O. Curran. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II.

He was a Charter and Honorary Life member of Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club. Also, he was Past Exalted Ruler and an Honorary Life member of Portsmouth-Chesapeake Lodge #82, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was a Past District Deputy, Grand Exalted Ruler and a Past State President of the Virginia Elks Association. He served on the Grand Lodge Americanism Committee in 1985-86 and from 1987 thru 1993, the last two years as chairman. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph F. Curran, Jr.

John was the widower of Emily Baker Fitchette Curran, his wife of 65 years. He is survived by his son, J. Bradford Curran and Debbye of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Norma C. Glennon of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Mary C. Garm of Portsmouth; granddaughter, Courtney Bass and Cameron; grandson, Bryce Curran and Michelle; great granddaughters, twins, Brielle and Addison Curran, great grandson, James Curran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday August 9, 2014 in St. Paul Catholic Church, 518 High Street, Portsmouth by the Rev. Michael G. Boehling. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday at B.W. Foster Funeral Home, 1926 High Street, Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, Restoration Fund, 3501 Cedar Lane, Portsmouth, VA 23703 or a .
