Lewis B. Goode, Jr.|
Virginia Beach - Lewis B. Goode, Jr., born in Lynchburg, VA, in 1929, the son of Lewis B. Goode and Annie O. Goode passed away on August 14, 2014. He was educated at Hampden- Sydney College, and graduated from several bank management, trust and marketing schools. He was a member of Sigma Chi and O.D.K., a national leadership fraternity. He served in the United States Air Force, in the Strategic Air Command, during the Korean War.
He was chairman of the Peoples Bank & Trust Co., a family run bank, in Chase City, later President of Fidelity American Bank in Lynchburg and Central Fidelity Banks, Inc. in Richmond (now Wells Fargo) in Virginia. Formerly a senior officer at Davidson, Garrad and Goode, an investment advisory firm in Lynchburg, and a former chairman of Mapcom Systems, Inc. in Richmond, and served on several corporate boards and later as an executive investment officer with Virginia Asset Group in Virginia Beach.
He served under three governors, twice as chairman of the Governor's Economic Development Board and traveled extensively in this capacity to bring industry to the state. He was also a member of the Society of Cincinnati in the State of Virginia.
In 1944, he was state singles tennis champion for the VHSL. He enjoyed duck and quail hunting and was a former member of the Bob White Lodge outside of Lynchburg. He was a member of the Princess Anne Country Club, the Commonwealth Club, and Galilee Episcopal Church, where he served in numerous capacities.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Martha Wallace Goode, 2 daughters; Ellen Goode Eirk of Louisville, KY, Ann Goode Hess (Mike) of Chesapeake, VA, 1 son; Robert Lewis Goode (Jane) of Virginia Beach, six grandchildren; David B. Hill, III (Lesli) of Dallas, TX, Martha Bradley Goode, Sally Wallace Goode and Lewis B. Goode, II all of Virginia Beach, Lee Wallace Watkins of Richmond, VA and Esther Nell Brandon of Chesapeake, VA, and a sister Carolyn G. Kirk of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by a grandson John Henry Watkins, III.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 18, 2014 at Galilee Church. A reception will follow in Tucker Hall.
