Portsmouth - Nancie Sue Alderman Cope Charles, 78, of Portsmouth, VA, passed away quietly at her home, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease.
The youngest of 13 children, she grew up in Rural Hall, NC. She married Howard Cope and they had two children.
After moving to Hampton Roads, Virginia, she married John Charles. She attended Good News Baptist church for over 20 years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by one son, John Cope (Sandy), of Virginia Beach, VA, and their children, Jonathan Cope, and Skyler Cope (Chelsea New), one daughter, Jennifer Cope of the home; one great granddaughter Zoey Cope; a step-daughter, Debbianne Shelton, of Rock Hill, SC and her children; a stepson, John Charles III (Dawn), of Portsmouth, VA, and their children; and a step-daughter, Susan Moore (Ricky), of Portsmouth, and their children. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by two husbands and twelve brothers and sisters. Her special in-laws were: Ruth Hill (Charlie), and Junior Morris (Linda). Services will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 AM, at Loving Funeral Home with burial at Olive Branch Cemetery. Pastor Walt Coles will officiate.
