Ronald J. Veliz CHESAPEAKE - Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Ronald Joseph Veliz, 51, died Friday, June 5, 2009. He was a native of Tucson, Ariz., and was the son of the late Albert and Mary Silvas Veliz. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona, Class of 1980. Cmdr. Veliz was a decorated war hero and a United States naval aviator and veteran of the Gulf War and the Global War on Terrorism. He retired after 26 years service to his country in 2007, and subsequently worked for Comm IT Enterprises as a program manager at the Joint Forces Command. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, Post 280. Cmdr. Veliz is survived by his wife, Carolyn Stephenson Veliz of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Maddison K. Veliz of Mesa, Ariz.; his sons; Trevor P. Veliz of Mesa, and Taylor J. Veliz of Chesapeake; five sisters, Norma S. Procaccino of Granbury, Texas, Patricia V. Gilbert of Phoenix, Nancy A. Veliz of Alexandria, Va., Yolanda Beasley of Arcadia, Calif., and Arlene L. Valencia of Sierra Madre, Calif.; one brother, Albert S. Veliz of Tucson; many nieces and nephews. A Christian wake will be held in the Chesapeake chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. followed by a visitation with the family until 9 p.m. A graveside funeral with military honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery.
