Daniel P. Bethel VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Patrick Bethel, 47, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, in Virginia Beach. Born in New York City, Dan retired from the U.S. Navy in 2008 after completing a successful 27-year career in the service of his country. He was baptized Catholic and attended Haygood United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach with his wife. Dan is survived by his wife, Susan D. Henson of Virginia Beach; mother, Helen C. Bethel of Mexico; three children, Kristine M. Bethel and Stephen P. Bethel of Illinois, and Courtney L. Bethel of Texas; two grandchildren; brother, Darryl J. Bethel of New Hampshire; and sister, Janet Aguire of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his father, Eddie M. Bethel. To honor his life, a funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek's Base Chapel. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, in Arlington National Cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. All those without base access who wish to attend the service at Little Creek, must register with the funeral home at (757) 464-6221 by 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28.
