George W. Kirby Jr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Lt. Cmdr. George Wilcox Kirby Jr., U.S. Navy retired, 86, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Born in Camden, N.J., he was the son of the late George Wilcox Kirby Sr. and Anna H. Kairer Kirby. He was husband of the late Mary Doyle Kirby. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jae Kirby. George was retired from the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War serving as a UDT Frogman/SEAL. He was a Mustang, obtaining the rank of lieutenant commander before retiring in 1972. George enjoyed traveling (throughout all seven continents), SCUBA swimming and horseback riding. George is survived by his daughter, Joan L. Beaver and husband Charles E. Jr.; son, Jerome F. Kirby and wife Sandra D.; sister, Elva G. Morgan; grandchildren, Sherri Smith, Chip Beaver, Christian Kirby, Mike Beaver and Jaeson Kirby; and eight great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, on Friday, June 11, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Charity Cemetery by Rev.
