Philip M. Hofler GATES - Philip Marmaduke Hofler, 55, of 500 block of Paige Riddick Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in his home. Mr. Hofler was born in Hertford County and was the son of Margaret Taylor Hofler Johnston of Sunbury and the late Marvin Philip Hofler. A saw operator with the former Union Camp, he was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church, Woodworkers of America and was the best daddy in the world. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Lynn Hofler. Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Judith Challender Hofler; two daughters, Kristen H. Pope and husband Thomas of Carrsville, Va., and Kirby Hofler of Gates; a sister, Julia Kecskes and husband Stephen of Virginia Beach; a brother, Marvin "Monkey" Hofler of Sunbury; a granddaughter, Brooklyn Walters; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, by the Rev. Billy Presley. Friends may join the family Saturday in the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of services and all other times at the residence.
