Leona Flood VIRGINIA BEACH - Leona Brown Turner Flood entered into the gates of Heaven with her heavenly father Jan. 15, 2011. A native of Norfolk, her family went back three generations of the city of Norfolk. She was born Sept. 16, 1930 in Norfolk. She was the daughter of Willard H. and Elizabeth Williamson Brown. She was a retired professional mortgage underwriter and auditor. She was employed in the banking industry and mortgage banking for over 35 years. She previously worked for Dragas Mortgage Company for 20 years. She was a graduate of Maury High School, Ruth Skelton Dancing School, Eva Mae Morris Dancing School, and Weavers Business School. She attended seminars training with FNMA, FHLMC, VA and FHA in Washington, D.C., Dallas, Arlington, Roanoke, Newport News and Virginia Beach and Memphis, Tenn. Her love was dancing; she was a professional dancer during World War II, dancing on ships, at the USO, lodges, night clubs and danced and sold war bonds with the Fred Waring Band and Olson and Johnson in Norfolk. She also danced with Tommy Gwaltney's Band. She was Past Matron with Kempsville No. 173, Virginia Beach, and Westminster No. 90 in Norfolk and Virginia Beach No. 75. She was Past Grand Chapter Officer in 1999-2000 for the Grand Chapter of Virginia and traveled to over 50 temples in Virginia. She had many friends and memories as a member of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Ladies of the Oriental, Virginia Beach Shrine Club, the American Business Women's Association, and American Bankers Association and Mortgage Bankers. She had many awards as a corporate underwriter. She covered over 50 states in Dallas. She was a member of the Bayside Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, Stephen C. Turner, and Kenneth I. Turner and his wife Janice; two special granddaughters, Christina and Sarah Turner; and by her sister, Shirley B. Griffin of Norfolk and numerous nephews, nieces and good friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Cleaton I. "Dick" Turner, and her second husband of 18 years, Fred D. Flood; a son, Richard H. Turner; her father, Willard H. Brown and her mother, Elizabeth W. Brown; her sister, Alma B. Collins; and a brother, Thomas Lee Brown. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral will be held in the funeral home chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. with interment in Princess Anne Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the , or the .
