Edward L. Powell Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Edward Lee Powell Jr., 83, of Oriole Road, died Feb. 18, 2011. A native of Berkley, Va., he was the son of the late Edward Lee Powell and Ada Powell Cherry. Mr. Powell was a retired electrical inspector with the City of Portsmouth, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898, American Legion Churchland Post 310, and associate member of the F.O.P. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a Navy veteran of Korea. Survivors include his wife, Sonia Oliver Powell; four sons, Edward L. Powell III of St. Mary's, Ga., Charles Powell Sr. and wife Teresa of Elizabeth City, N.C., Robert L. Powell and wife Sol of Portsmouth and Corey L. Powell of Portsmouth; two brothers, Alvin M. Powell and Robert L. Powell and wife Judy of Portsmouth; one brother-in-law, Richard E. Oliver Sr. of Portsmouth; and four grandchildren, Sonia P. Wilson, Charles "C.J." Powell Jr., Christopher Powell and Thomas Powell. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Olive Branch Cemetery by Chaplain Jeffrey Quinn.
