Jeffrey M. Johnson
Virginia Beach - Jeffrey Michael Johnson, 49, passed away peacefully Monday, September 17, 2012 after a brave battle with cancer, at home, with family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Amy, and their young son Michael, parents Mike and Loretta Johnson, grandmother Margaret Kube "GG", sister Christine and brother in-law Brian Keady, mother and father in-law Nick and Honey D'Andrea, sister in-law Nancy Sheppard, nieces Gabrielle Sheppard, Michelle and Megan Keady, many aunts, uncles and cousins and his "wingmen," Kevin Kordek and Chuck Roach. Finally, Jeff leaves his extended family of A-Active and the pest control industry which he so loved and was part of his daily life.
Jeff was a devoted and caring husband and father. He married his best friend and was most happy watching his son grow into a strong young man.
Jeff was born in Virginia Beach and was raised in Northern Virginia. He attended Woodbridge High School and served proudly in the USMC.
As President of A-Active Termite and Pest Control Company, Jeff was a strong and respected leader. He was revered as a thought-processed leader in his industry and received his Associate Certified Entomologist designation as well as numerous and prestigious awards including the Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA) Industry Stewardship Award and the Pest Control Technology Crown Leadership Award. He served to educate, empower and elevate the professionalism of his industry by holding many volunteer leadership positions with the Tidewater Pest Management Association and the VPMA, where was most recently served as President.
A viewing will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012 at H.D. Oliver on Laskin Road in Virginia Beach from 6-9pm with eulogy at 7pm. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church on Sandbridge Rd, Virginia Beach at 11am.
Jeff was an advocate for education and research. A donation will be made in his honor to a foundation that supports his vision. At this time, donations can be made to Johnson's Hope for a Cure, PO Box 41204, Norfolk, VA 23502 - Bank of Hampton Roads - or flowers may be sent to H.D. Oliver, Virginia Beach.
