Virginia Beach - Dr. Robert (Bob) J. Orrell DVM, 80, of Virginia Beach passed away December 29, 2012. His practice of veterinary medicine was more than a career, it was a love and passion to help animals and comfort their owners.
Bob was born in Wilmington, NC. to the late Relma and Ann (Dellinger) Orrell. He served in the United States Coast Guard. In 1954 he married Helen Duncan Orrell wife of 30 years and had two sons Bobby and Randy Orrell. In the fall of 1954 he attended North Carolina State University, graduating in 1957. Bob graduated in 1961 from University of Georgia as a doctor of veterinary medicine. Bob was the founder of Chesapeake Veterinary Hospital, co-founder of Friendship Veterinary Hospital in Norfolk, VA and Hilltop Veterinary Clinic in Virginia Beach, VA with his long time and beloved friend Dr. John Bensenhaver. Their partnership included a veterinary mission trip to Haiti. Even after retiring Bob's devotion and friendship to his clients continued.
Bob had a love for fishing and boating where he spent many relaxing hours. Bob loved sports. He coached and regularly attended his sons and his grand children's sporting events. Bob was currently on the board of directors in the American Environment Foundation. Bob also served as a deacon from 1976 - 1984 at Centerville Baptist Church in Chesapeake. VA.
Bob is survived by his wife Judith P. Orrell and her three sons Doug, Tim and Kevin Paasch. His two sons, Robert J. Orrell Jr of Chesapeake his daughter, Chelsea Orrell, (NC), Frank Randall Orrell, his daughter Ciara Orrell, son Chase Orrell all of Virginia Beach, He was predeceased by a brother, Relma D. Orrell.
The family visitation service will be held Thu., Jan. 3, 2013 at H. D. Oliver Funeral home on Laskin Road, Virginia Beach, VA. from 6 - 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held Fri., Jan. 4, 2013 at Great Neck Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, VA. at 2 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hdoliver.com.
