Uncle Barney - “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV)
You were the manager/messenger of the gifts God gave you. - When God made you, he made an investment in you, and he expects a return on that investment and you did just that!
Your influence & faithfulness will forever remain a legacy in the hearts & minds of those you touched

Barney will be missed by all who knew the depth of his loving spirit, and his selfless giving. He was an integral part of Mt. Carmel's basketball team when my father, Al Stukes, Sr., was the coach. He just had that smile that made you feel no matter what the score was, it was going to be alright in the end. Our prayers go out to the Stevenson family and for Barney, it is still alright. My condolences to the Stevenson family. I have known Barney for five decades. It was always a pleasure to see him, even though we attended the best of rivalry schools. One day a few years ago, while on my way to my first CIAA Basketball Tournament in Raleigh, NC, I saw Barney at a rest area and he was on his way to the CIAA. He told me that his son was playing in the tournament. I was proud that he had a son to rock the peel in the CIAA. We didn't see each other often enough over the years, but while he was in the Air Force and I was in the Army we corresponded. A few months ago, I even ran across a letter that he wrote while we were serving our country. That cracked me up when I read it again. I saw Barney just a couple of months ago at NSU's homecoming, I told him I would see him at the CIAA. I found out this past Saturday, 1/19/13, that my long time friend Barney had passed. May his family stay strong and maintain the cherished memories that you have.
My regards,

We cannot remember a time in our lives when Barney was not a member of our extended family. Barney was always there – from prom night when he interrogated and terrorized a prom date, to our weddings when we hit the dance floor, and all the occasions (happy and sad) that he shared with our family. We were honored to be a part of Barney and Hedy's wedding over 30 years ago, watching their pride and joy “BJ” grow into such a wonderful young man, and all the fun times in between. Mama and Daddy thought of him as a surrogate son and looked forward to his visits. He always made them laugh! Family gatherings, NSU games and I.C. Norcom High School alumni activities will never be the same without him. His ever present smile, constant teasing and signature quotes were all what made Barney such a joy to be around. Hedy and BJ, you both know how much we loved Barney and that love extends to you both more than we can express. His loss will be felt by more people than you will ever know. But we will see him again, smiling of course. - Allison and Michelle
