Levy John LeBlanc
Virginia Beach - Levy John LeBlanc, 93, passed away on January 24, 2013. John was born on May 30, 1919 in Gonzales, Louisiana to the late Leonce Charles and Hester Margaret LeBlanc. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 69 years, Mabel Roberson LeBlanc; children, Richard E. LeBlanc of Virginia Beach, VA, Linda Coltrane of Charlotte, NC, and Stephen C. LeBlanc of Agana, Guam; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Beverly L. Wheat of Gonzales, LA. John was predeceased by his son, Charles L. LeBlanc; 3 sisters, Vernell Lanoux, Alberta L. Braud and Elsie M. Stephens all of Gonzales, LA; and 2 brothers, Layton C. LeBlanc and Sully LeBlanc. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1936 and served aboard various ships in the Pacific area, rising to the rank of Chief Gunners Mate. He was commissioned as Ensign in July 1944 and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. John retired in July 1962 and attended College of William and Mary and was awarded Masters Degree. He began teaching in Norfolk Public Schools in 1964 and retired in July 1984 as principal of Sewells Point Elementary School. John was a member of Sandbridge Rescue Squad for 9 years. He will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. John had a lasting impact on the men he served with in the Navy as well as those educators and children he led as a principal. He will be missed by all the people that had their days brightened by a kind word or a deed done because that's just what John did. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
