Norfolk - Cordell Calvin Crayton, age 65, transitioned to eternal life at home in Norfolk, Virginia on Monday, July 1, 2013. Born December 1, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, Cordell was a Chief Petty Officer who served in the United States Navy for over 21 years as a Boiler Technician, and retired in 1986 as a ship superintendent at SIMA Norfolk, Virginia. He attended New York University and Norfolk State University majoring in Mass Communications. He was a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins. He was a member of the American Legion and plank owner of the Naval Memorial in Washington, DC. Cordell is survived by his beautiful wife of 28 wonderful years of marriage Mrs.Claudia C. Crayton, his sister Ms. Deborah Y. Crayton and brother. Mr. Meredith A. Crayton (Cynthia), his aunt Mrs. Dora A. Smith, a host of nieces and nephews, and his beloved pet Caycee. His mother Mrs.Ella L. Trotter-Crayton and his father Mr.Randolph M. Crayton preceded him in death. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 11, at the Graves Funeral Home Chapel, 1631 Church Street, Norfolk, VA 23504.
