A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday July 28th 2013 at her home away from home Seatack Recreation Center 141 South Birdneck Road Virginia Beach, VA. 23451 from 12 noon until 2pm.
Miss Sally passed away Monday July 17th in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 18th 1940 to Harry & Helen Nelson in Brooklyn, New York. She was the youngest of 8 children and is survived by her siblings Mildred LeMarquand, Sadie Chrzanowski, and Sonny Nelson.
Young Sally loved music and dancing, she was a New York City rock-n-roll gal through and through. She shared fond memories of saddle shoes, poodle skirts, and adventures in Coney Island and throughout Brooklyn.
Settling into Virginia Beach in the early 80's she became a role model to her children, working multiple jobs to support them while still making time to provide a nurturing, fun and loving home. She worked at W.T. Cooke Elementary and an oceanfront hotel for 20+ years and made innumerable friends. She enjoyed her retired years among her newly extended family at the Seatack Recreation Senior Center where she enjoyed playing games, crafting, and swimming.
She was a wonderful parent and mentor to her children and as they grew older developed into their best friend. With heavy yet full hearts she leaves behind her four children, Sally, Helen, AJ, and John. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was met at Heaven's Gate by her first grandchild, her guardian angel.
