Virginia Beach - CDR John T. Boyd, Ret. passed away on August 21, 2013 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. John was born on April 12, 1938 at Binghamton, N.Y.
He entered the Navy in 1962, and reported to BUDS Training and graduated with Class 29 on 10 December 1962. John was selected to join SEAL TEAM ONE, thus beginning his long and proud service as a US NAVY SEAL, including service in Vietnam, the CO of UDT-22 at USNAB, Little Creek, Va., and special selection to go to Pool, England to assist in the review and rewrite of NWP's and NWIP's for Special Warfare. John made a career with Naval Special Warfare, and during his career received 13 medals, ribbons, and citations, numerous commendations, and the respect of everyone that he worked with.
He retired from the Navy on June 1, 1983 and spent the last 30 years working in every handy way imaginable, enjoying his time with his wife Linda, whom he married in 1966, their neighbors, and his woodworking, with rarely a day going by that he wasn't seen at his local Woodcraft store.
John was preceded in death by his wife Linda last year, and is survived by his sisters-in-law, Jeanne Jackson and Carolyn Jackson; nephew, Randy Jackson; nieces, Jennifer Rabins, Julie Melekian and Carol Comstock; nine grand-nieces and -nephews, and many close friends.
His memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 1900 hours at the SEAL Heritage Center, Little Creek NAS, 1619 D Street, Bldg. 5326, Virginia Beach, VA 23459. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the cremation.
