Margaret G. McMahon

Virginia Beach - Margaret "Marg" Gardner McMahon died peacefully November 19, 2013 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is survived by her sons CDR George Gardner, III (retired) (Ponte Vedra, FL), CDR Jamie Gardner (retired) (Springfield, VA), Bill Gardner (Enfield, CT), Bob Gardner (Virginia Beach, VA), and step children Rick McMahon (Virginia Beach, VA), Maj. Steve McMahon (retired) (Lorton, VA), Jan McMahon (Jacksonville, VA), Patty McMahon (Chesapeake, VA), and their respective spouses, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and other extended family.

Marg was born December 23, 1922 to Herbert C. and Margaret W. Sadler. She grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Marg attended the University of Michigan. She married George H Gardner, Jr. in the 1945 and had four boys. They moved to various places while in the Navy and LCDR Gardner died in an airplane crash in 1958. She married CDR Richard E. McMahon (Dick) in 1964 and lived in Norfolk, Virginia until 1985. Marg and Dick retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1985 where they lived until 2010. They moved back to Virginia Beach in 2010 where they lived until they both died in 2013. Dick McMahon died on June 1, 2013. She loved spending summers at her beach cottage in Kitty Hawk, NC. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, dancing, golfing, reading and playing solitaire at the kitchen table. Her family and a large network of military and other friends she met wherever she lived will miss her.

An interment will be scheduled at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery for both Marg and Dick McMahon.
