Susan M. Dominesey Obituary
Susan M. Dominesey

Chesapeake - Susan Margaret Dominesey, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went home to eternal rest on January 28, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late John and Julia Galo, and was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, James Francis Dominesey. Susan was born August 28, 1948 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Raised in Norfolk County, which later became Chesapeake, Susan enjoyed a loving childhood surrounded by three brothers (George, John and Paul) a sister (Julia), many cousins, aunts and uncles and grandparents. Susan attended Norfolk General School of Nursing immediately after high school, fulfilling a childhood dream of becoming a nurse. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Norfolk General Hospital, Leigh Memorial Hospital, and a brief time in Western New York, and at the Sentara Ambulatory Care Clinic in Norfolk, retiring after 35 years of service. Nursing must have flowed strongly through her veins because two of her four children are nurses, and all of her children carry a compassion and caring for all people. James and Susan married in February 1968, with the couple raising four children: Julie, Mark, Michael, and Cynthia. She has been a friend and confidant to her children's' spouses, and her 12 grandchildren. Susan, a lifelong member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Chesapeake, a member of the Grassfield Ruritans club and a member of the Ladies auxiliary of BPOE Elks lodge 38, will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Susan's surviving family members include her daughter Julie, her son Mark and his wife Kimberly and their children: Sofia, Isobel, Eloise, Edward, Mathilde, James, and Pickles. Her son Michael and his wife Leslie and their children: Rachel, Aaron, and Nathan. Daughter Cynthia and her husband Fred and their children: Brandon, Dylan and Allyson. Also surviving is her brother George and his wife Shirley and their children, sister Julia and her husband John and their children, her brother John, her brother Paul, and his wife and their son, and her Mother-in-law Patricia Dominesey. There are also many cousins, and aunts and uncles that share in the sadness of her absence, and will miss her quick wit, infectious laugh, and loving smile.

A Requiem Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 4 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 536 Homestead Road, Chesapeake. Father David Cupps will officiate. The interment will follow in Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk.

Visitation will begin on Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.

Friends are invited to sign the online guest book at www.omanfh.com.
