David Lloyd Vittitoe, 23, of Lebanon Junction, died on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014.
He was struck by a car on the Joe Prather Highway in Racliff. He stopped to assist another motorist who had struck a deer. It was then that he was struck by another vehicle.
David was a 2008 graduate of Bullitt Central High School in Shepherdsville. He was a co-owner of Vittitoe Trucking Co. and lead superintendent of K&M Services in Lebanon Junction.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles Cothern; aunt, Connie Bagwell; uncle, Donnie Cothern; and cousin, John Curtis Walden.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Kathy Vittitoe of Lebanon Junction; sister, Jennifer (Eric) Jekel; brothers, Jeremy (Jennifer Thornton) Vittitoe, Jesse (Krista Day) Vittitoe and Charles (DJ) Vittitoe; companion, Molly Witt, all of Lebanon Junction; grandparents, Louise and Bobby House, Mary-Ann Miller and Roy and Wilma Vittitoe, all of Boston, Ky; nephews Gavin and Cameron Jekel, and niece Nevaeh Vittitoe, all of Lebanon Junction; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends.
David was a true testament of a loving, caring and wonderful person. He has a true heart of gold. He passed away doing exactly what he was known for, lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be missed each day by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He will leave a lifelong legacy of a truly amazing young man, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, at the First Baptist Church of Lebanon Junction with burial in Lebanon Junction Cemetery. Visitation will be form 1-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 9 a.m. on Friday at Kappel Funeral Home in Lebanon Junction.
