Maxine H. McGruder, 94, of Shepherdsville, died on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1923, in Columbia, Ky. After high school, she went to Washington, D.C., to work in the Pentagon and, after leaving Washington, she came back to Louisville to become the first female air traffic controller in this part of the country.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Raymond McGruder; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John and Fannie (Brockton) Hutchison; and siblings, Carol Worthington, Sue Scott, Ruth Ann Pederson, Billy and Bobby Hutchison.
She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Cheryl) and Gary (Ann) McGruder; grandson, John Tyler McGruder; siblings, Jewel Sayre and Eddie (Ruth) Hutchison; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Thursday, Sept. 4, at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home near Shepherdsville with burial in Hebron Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to the home caregivers, as well as the loving staff at Wesley Manor Aldersgate Center.
