Melvin M. Porter, 96, of Mount Washington, returned to the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2017, at his home.
He was the owner of the old Western Auto Store in Mount Washington, a farmer, builder and faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Thomas and Lora Crenshaw Porter; and two siblings, Chest Nolan (Alice) Porter and Elizabeth Louise (William Robert) Cornell.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dean Porter; son, Murrell (Judy) Porter; daughter, Bonnie Lee Roof; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, at McFarland-Troutman-Proffitt Funeral Home in Mount Washington with burial in Mount Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Memorial gifts in Mr. Porter's memory are suggested to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
