Dorothy Unger Obituary

MORTON - Dorothy J. (Keller) Unger, 85, of Goshen, Ind., formerly of Morton, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at IU Health Goshen Hospital after a short illness.

She was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Eureka, Ill., to Emil and Anna (Roth) Keller. She married George S. Unger on Sept. 9, 1956, in Metamora, Ill. He preceded her in death, in 2010.

She is survived by a son, Ben (Debra) Unger of Center Valley, Pa.; two sisters, Carol Jones of Goshen and Joanne Rivera of Archbold, Ohio; and special friend, Theron Schlabach of Goshen.

Dorothy received a secretarial certificate from Goshen College in 1948 and worked as a secretary for the registrar and director of admissions at Goshen College until 1955, and subsequently as secretary at churches in Illinois and Indiana.

She and her husband served at Prairie View Hospital (MCC Health Services) in Newton, Kan., from 1956-59, and they lived in Morton, Ill., from 1965-89. In 1989, they retired and moved to Goshen, where Dorothy was active in the community, volunteering at Oaklawn Hospital, The Window, Goshen College, IN-MI Conference and many other church activities.

She was a member of College Mennonite Church.

Dorothy was kind and caring, loved to be with people and touched the lives of many in very special ways.

Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today, Jan. 18, 2014, in the Koinonia Room at College Mennonite Church, where a celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014. Pastor Ron Kennell will officiate. A private burial will take place in Pleasant View Cemetery in Goshen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mennonite Central Committee, P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501.
