Eugene Catteau Obituary

WASHINGTON - Eugene Catteau, 96, of Washington, Ill., formerly of Peoria, Ill., died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, Ill.

Born on Jan. 13, 1917, in Lovington, Ill., to Emmanual and Vesta Davis Catteau, he married Hazel Tiezzi on April 28, 1945, in Peoria, Ill.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Tiezzi Catteau; two daughters, Lynn Ann (Brian) Holland and Gale Gene (Matthew) Everhart, all of Washington; as well as three grandchildren, Heather Holland Gates, Maxwell Everhart and Samuel Everhart.

During his retirement years, Gene loved spending his time with family. He especially treasured attending basketball and football games involving his grandkids. Gene entertained his family and friends throughout the years with his accordion and keyboard music. He and Hazel spent much of their retirement time in Arizona enjoying the warm sunshine and close fellowship of wonderful friends.

Gene worked in the sheet metal trade for 67 years and was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Association Local No. 1. In his retirement years, he attended monthly Rusty Tinners Retirees meetings and enjoyed a close friendship with the group.

Gene belonged to Holy Family Church in Peoria for 47 years and was a devoted volunteer at the church, school and Knights of Columbus.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He will be remembered most for his positive attitude and willingness to help everyone with a smile.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, with his nephew, Father Jeff Laible, presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
