Marian Spear Obituary

CHILLICOTHE - Marian Louise Spear, 94, of Chillicothe passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Heritage Health Senior Care.

Marion was born on May 1, 1919, in Peoria, Ill. The daughter of Walter Melvin and Edith Pearl (Kingsley) Miller, she married Charles R. Spear Sr. on Feb. 2, 1936, in Bloomington, Ill. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Melvin and Leon Leroy; one son-in-law, Cecil Lasswell; and three great-great-grandchildren, Tucker Baer, Cruz Guerreo and Melissa Spear.

Marian is survived by two daughters, one son and one daughter-in-law, Charlotte Mettes of Smyrna, Tenn., Edith Baer-Lasswell of Smithfield, Ill., Charles (Sheryl) Spear Jr. of Bartonville, Ill., and Beverly Spear (wife of Leon) of Forsyth, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Marian enjoyed life. Her family was always important to her; she raised five children.

Moving to Edelstein in 1946, she loved being in the country. She was involved in many activities over the years working on the farm, crafts, crocheting, knitting, bible, study, home extension and her favorite thing, yard sales. Later in life she volunteered her time at senior clubs and activities.

She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 3883 in Bartonville, Ill., and she also spent time volunteering at the Cedar Creek thrift store to raise money for their fire department. She would lend a hand wherever she was needed.

Marian loved to travel, every summer she and Chuck would pull a travel trailer on vacations. She traveled to almost every state in the U.S. Fishing was also very important, many trips to Minnesota and Canada to catch the big ones. After retirement, she would spend summers in Minnesota and winters in Arizona and Florida.

When she gave up traveling she moved to Cedar Creel, Mo., and eventually back to Bartonville, Ill., to be close to her family. Her family still took her on trips. She went to Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Hawaii and on a Western Cruise. Her final years were spent at Heritage Health in Chillicothe.

Marian will be missed by all who loved her.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses, CNAs and staff members at Heritage Health for the loving care given to our mother.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Endsley-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Bartonville, Ill. Visitation will be two hours prior to service. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. The Reverend Dave Utt will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the activities department at Heritage Health in Chillicothe, c/o Missy Herridge; Red Brick School designated restoration repairs in Smithfield, Ill.; or to the donor's choice in honor of Marian.
