Zikus, James - Peoria  
PEORIA - James John Zikus, 91, of Peoria passed away at 10:57 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Jim was born on Feb. 5, 1924, in Peoria to the late Antone M. and Suzanna E. (Zinckavich) Zikus. He married Mary Alice Neavill on Nov. 30, 1946. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Sandra (Mark) Schatsiek of Washington, Ill., and Susan (Jack) Gilles of Peoria; three grandchildren, Cori (Bryan) Long, Andy Gilles and Brandon (Sarah) Schatsiek; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Julie Richart of Peoria; one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and one nephew. Jim was a 1942 graduate of Manual High School in Peoria and a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the European and Pacific Theatres and receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a carpenter by trade and later became a union business agent for Carpenters Local 183, retiring in 1986. Jim was a member of the American Legion, Shriners, and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria. An avid fisherman and golfer, he never knew a stranger. He was loved and admired by all who knew him and a hero to his family and country. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father James Pallardy will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the rosary at 5:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital or Wounded Warriors.
