BREEDS - George E. "Gene" Smith, 91, of Breeds passed away at 8:55 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at Graham Hospital in Canton. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton, where visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Breeds-Orendorff Cemetery in rural Canton.

Smith, Gregg - East Peoria  
EAST PEORIA - Gregg Laverne Smith, 63, of East Peoria passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Gregg was born May 23, 1951, at Methodist Hospital to Wilbur and Mary Smith. He graduated from Chillicothe High School. He was married on April 18, 1981, to Diane Strough. Surviving are his mother, Mary Smith of Chillicothe; two daughters, Amanda (Nicholas Link) Smith of Joplin, Mo., and Jennifer (Adam) Bartlett of East Peoria; three grandchildren, Cheyenne and Domonic Link and Adam Bartlett Jr.; two sisters, Cheryl Capetz of Forest Lake, Minn., and Rebecca Philyaw of Whitewater, Wis.; one brother, Steve Smith of Chillicothe, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and friend to many. Gregg was preceded in death by his father; his spouse of 31 years; and brother, Brad Smith of Chillicothe, Ill. After Gregg's retirement, he was owner/operator of Smitty's Home Improvement. Gregg also loved to ride his motorcycle. Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe, with visitation at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, followed by the funeral at 5 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Chillicothe City Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife. MACOMB - Mary M. Smith, 96, of Macomb passed away at 9 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at her residence. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home, with a Catholic wake service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Snyder, Ardis  
KEWANEE - Ardis Arlene Snyder, 88, of Kewanee, formerly of Wyoming and Princeville, passed away at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Hammond-Henry Hospital in Geneseo, Ill. Ardis was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Wyoming, Ill., to Robert and Jessie Wilkinson Bawn. She married Kenneth Milo Snyder on May 18, 1946, in Peoria. He preceded her in death, as well as her parents; an infant sister, Lavonna Bawn; and a half sister, Blanche Bawn. Surviving are her seven children, Nancy Snyder of Kewanee, Clifford (Cindy) Snyder of Bloomsdale, Mo., Kenalene (Farron) Forbeck of Peru, Kenny (Rose) Snyder, Melanie (Clint) Block and David Snyder, all of Neponset, and Marilyn (Kevin) Collins of Kewanee; 12 grandchildren, Kimberly Guinn, Kristine Snyder, Cheryl Phillips, Emily Snyder, Rebecca and Justin Forbeck, Michelle Roth, Darren Snyder, August and Freya Block, Dalton Snyder and Austin Collins; six great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Nora, Harper, Henry and Landen; three great-great-grandchildren, Hayden, Gage and Maximus; three sisters, Gleynafa (Eddie) Page of St. Louis, Mo., and Jean Eckman and Karen Nunez, both of Camp Grove; and cousin, Robert Simpson of Waterloo, Iowa. She enjoyed singing, yodeling, reading and writing. She was very proud that a news article she wrote for the Kewanee Star Courier was distributed nationally by the Associated Press. Ardis loved to research genealogy and was a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR) member. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 14, 2015, at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Wyoming. The Rev David Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Steiger, Evelyn  
DELAVAN - Evelyn M. Steiger, 75, of Delavan passed away at 4:23 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla. She was born Aug. 14, 1939, in Bloomington to Willard C. and Erma M. Studer Martin. She married Ralph L. Steiger on Aug. 25, 1957, in Hopedale, and he survives. Also surviving are one son, Gary (Traci) Steiger of Delavan; one daughter, Sandra (Matt) Alexander of Delavan; five grandchildren, Cassi, Madison, Riley, Christopher and Adrianne; one sister, Mary Lou (Ken) Oekel of St. Louis, Mo.; and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Evelyn taught school for many years at the Delavan School District. She was a member of Boynton Mennonite Church in Hopedale, where she taught Sunday school, served on the church board and was church organist for over 50 years. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Boynton Mennonite Church in Hopedale. Pastor Kurt Litwiller will officiate. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, also at the church. Burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan is handling the arrangements.
