Abraham Wilkinson

PEKIN - Abraham "Abe" Cantrell Wilkinson III, 84, of Pekin, Ill., passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Amy's Country Manor in Pekin, Ill.

He was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Doe Run, Mo., to Abraham Cantrell & Katy Childers Wilkinson Jr. He married Martha Bishop on Sept. 23, 1950, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2006.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Wilkinson, Woodrow Wilkinson, Bill Wilkinson, Glen Wilkinson and Chester Wilkinson; sisters, Rosemary Vaugh, Bernice Marsh, Laura Wilkinson and Norma Jean Wilkinson; one great-grandson and one nephew.

He is survived by his children, David (Susan) Wilkinson of Stanardsville, Va., John Wilkinson of Jackson, Mo., Judy Wirth of Green Valley, Ill., and Joyce (Michael) Bush of Pekin, Ill.; grandchildren, Jimmie Kinder Jr., Jennifer (Chuck) Burgess, Dan (Katy) Bush, Angie Smith, Christy Williams, Brandi Wilkinson, Robert Wilkinson, Christopher Wilkinson, Dylan Wilkinson and MacKenzie Wilkinson; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; a sister, Stella Parson of Granite City, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Abe served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a millwright for Caterpillar for 44 years before retiring Feb. 2, 1989. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 916 and UAW 974 Retiree.

He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, Ill., where a funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at 10 a.m. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday, April 8, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, Ill.
