PEORIA - Ada Dimond, 91, of Peoria passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born July 20, 1922, in Farmington, Ill., to Giovanni and Domenica (Valentini) Agnoletti, immigrants from Cesa, Toscana, Italy, in 1912. Ada married James W. Dimond on Nov. 6, 1943, in Peoria. He died Sept. 7, 1988, in Peoria.
Ada also was preceded in death by her son, Dennis J. Dimond; one sister, Minnie Haines; and two brothers, Leno "Twitter" Agnoletti and Aldo "Fizz" Agnoletti, her twin brother.
She is survived by her grandson, Jeremy (Jody) Dimond of Bolingbrook, Ill.; four great-granddaughters, Sophia, Abigail, Maya and Caroline Dimond of Bolingbrook; one sister, Bruna Verardo of Farmington, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She especially appreciated her nephew, Larry Verardo of Glasford, Ill., who watched over her in her later years after the death of her son, Dennis.
She lived in Peoria for nearly 60 years, except for four years from 1961 to 1964, when her husband, Jim, helped set up Caterpillar Inc.'s plant in Grenoble, France.
She and Jim were active in the American Legion post in Farmington and in the Caterpillar Retirees Club. She was a member of the Farmington Women of the Moose.
In Peoria, she worked at Caterpillar during World War II, as a cashier at several grocery stores and as a volunteer for 17 years at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and a generous and faithful friend to many. She loved cooking, bowling, playing cards and spoiling her four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 W. Willow Knolls Drive, Peoria, Ill. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Entombment will be at Swan Lake Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
