Cecil Lasswell

SMITHFIELD - Cecil Allen Lasswell, 61, of Smithfield passed away at 4:37 a.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Graham Hospital in Canton after a long and brave battle with cancer for six years.

Cecil was born on Sept. 21, 1951, in Canton, the son of George Leroy and Norma Irene (Lafary) Lasswell. He married Edie Baer on June 5, 2007, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving is Sandra (Spires) Ginger, the mother of his children; two daughters, Margaret Ann Hagen and Mary Alice (Tad) Strube; one stepson, Richard (Debbie) Baer; one stepdaughter, Amie Whitman; two grandchildren, Kayla Nicole Frazier and Craig Allen Henderson; six stepgrandchildren, Thomas Mone, Ariel Mone, Sarah Baer, Rachel Baer, Sophie Baer and Amber Strube; one great-grandchild, Darian Lee Weaver; four brothers, George Eugene (Zelda) Lasswell, Norman (Marcia) Lasswell, Dennis Michael Lasswell and Daniel Lasswell; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Mettes and Beverly Spear; one brother-in-law, Charles (Sheryl) Spear; his mother-in-law, Marian Spear; nieces; nephews; aunts; cousins; and Benji.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Wendy Sue Lasswell.

Cecil retired from Caterpillar Inc. on July 1, 2012. He was a pattern maker at the Mapleton Foundry plant. He worked for Caterpillar for 45 years. He loved his job.

Cecil enjoyed fishing, hunting, looking for mushrooms, golf, country dancing, and traveling, but most of all the love for his family.

He was a volunteer fireman, served on the Village Board, and repaired vehicles out of his garage for many years in Smithfield, where he lived his whole life.

He will be missed and was truly loved by his wife, children, family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba, with the Reverend David Lafary officiating. Burial will be in Baughman Cemetery at rural Smithfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the memorial home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Red Brick School or to the family.
