EAST PEORIA - Charles W. Allison, 76, of East Peoria passed away at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla.
He was born on July 13, 1931, in Peoria, Ill., to Ira and Dorothy (Krueger) Allison. He married Madge Groom on Jan. 28, 1972, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin grandsons, Eric and Michael Broyles.
Surviving are his wife, Madge of East Peoria; his sons, William and Kenneth Groom and Ed Riddle; daughter, Barbara (Mark) Carr; sisters, Marilyn Conner and Sharon (Jerry) Kasten; and three grandchildren, Sara and Ben (Yvonne) Broyles and Lindsey Riddle.
He was a graduate of East Peoria High School and attended Bradley University.
Chuck was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving during the Korean War.
He was a general contractor and was the owner of Allison Builders. He helped to develop several subdivisions, built homes, and did various other work for local schools and churches.
Chuck was a member of the American Legion, the AMVETS and a past member of the Masons.
He will be known for living life to its fullest and not letting his health slow him down. Chuck and Madge have been winter residents of the Villages in Lady Lake, Fla., for many years, and a memorial service will be held there at a later date.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Alan Newhall will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
