Charles Evans

CHILLICOTHE - Charles Eugene Evans, 94, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Chillicothe, Ill., passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center, Fla.

He was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Corydon, Ind., the son of Charles W. and Viola (Groft) Evans. He married Mary Auxier on Oct. 2, 1938, in Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harlan Evans; and sister, Glorianne Huff.

Surviving are his wife, Mary of Sun City Center; daughters, Susanne (Mick) Sarver of Peoria, Mary Lou (Bill) Holland of University Place, Wash., and Marcy (Ed) Coppernoll of Peoria; son, Richard (Sherri) Evans of Dunedin, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Shortly after his discharge, he began working as a salesman for Wolverine World Wide, living in Chillicothe for 35 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist of Chillicothe, Arrowhead Country Club and was active in the Chillicothe Park District tennis program.

He moved to Sun City Center, Fla., in 1985, where he continued to enjoy tennis and golf. He was a member of the United Community Church in Sun City Center.

Cremation rites have been accorded, with burial and a memorial service to take place in Corydon, Ind., at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe.
