HAVANA - Darrell "Deano" Benedict, 65, of Havana, Ill., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 21, 2014.
Dean was born July 17, 1948, in Lincoln, Ill., to Raymond and Betty (Lucas) Benedict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are two children, Tommy (Sue) Benedict of Havana, Ill., and Hope Alvarez of Tucson, Ariz.; two stepchildren, Phillip and Lisa Force of Peoria, Ill.; eight siblings, Judy Baker of Venice, Fla., Ellen (Ed) Eggers of Peoria, Ill., Roger (Cheryl) Benedict of Brimfield, Ill., Carol (Bob) Parcesepe of Peoria, Ill., Brenda (Steve) Hankins of Brimfield, Ill., Randy Benedict of Bartonville, Ill., Raymond Benedict of Lincoln, Ill., and Lyle (Renelle) Benedict of Lincoln, Ill.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his close and loyal yellow Lab, Sissy Mae.
Dean was a seven-time Illinois State Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He lost by split decision to represent the United States at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
He was a member of Union 165 Peoria Labors for 38 years.
He was an avid hunter who loved camping, fishing and being outdoors.
Services for Dean will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Davison-Fulton Woolsey Funeral Home in Glasford, Ill. Paul McGrew will officiate the service. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service. A celebration of life luncheon will follow services at Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 265 at 1704 East Lane in Peoria, Ill. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service.
