PEORIA - Earl G. Hilberer, 84, of Springfield, husband of a former Peoria woman, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
He was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Gillespie, Ill., to Walter and Amelia Gerdt Hilberer. He married Clara Mae Pilger on March 4, 1956, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beardstown.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester; and an infant brother.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Mae; two daughters, Pamela Hilberer and Patricia Musgrove, both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Underwood, Joshua (Chrystal) Musgrove and Anthony Musgrove; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jeremiah Underwood and Ricky Williams.
Earl was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He loved playing golf, bowling, pool and traveling all over the world.
Earl graduated from Gillespie High School and Michigan State University.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Franklin Life Insurance Company in 1986, after 30 years of service.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Radtke officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
