TOLUCA - Edna M. Meils, 83, of Toluca, Ill., died at 11:59 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Toluca with the Rev. Ryan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Clayton Township Cemetery in Benson. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday both at the church. Edna was born on June 23, 1929, in Benson, Ill., the daughter of Harm and Lena Woltzen deFreese. She married John W. "Jack" Meils on Dec. 13, 1952, in Benson. He died March 3, 2008.
Surviving are five children, Rene (Duane) Dunham of Woodstock, Ga., Scott Meils of Toluca, Joe (EJ) Meils of Conway, Ark., Elaine Meils of Bloomington, and Mollie (Monty) Stehl of Benson; 11 grandchildren, Ted (Lauren) Dunham, Jordan Pohlman, Jessie Meils, Ashley, Savannah, and Austin Mann, Megan (Justin) Hillman, Matthew, Mitchell, Braydon Stehl and Michelle Biedenharn; five great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Craig deFreese.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant children, and one brother Harold.
Edna was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Toluca. She was a graduate of Benson High School and had worked at Caterpillar and Durre Brothers. She was an avid gardener, and an award winning quilt artist. She loved to bake and make ice cream. She and her husband farmed and she enjoyed everything in her life.
