Franklin Jenkins

MORTON - Franklin D. Jenkins, age 79, of Morton, Ill., formerly of Metamora, Ill., passed away at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home.

He was born on July 14, 1933, to Lester Lee Sr. and Anna (Groth) Jenkins in Gridley, Ill. His father preceded Frank in death when he was a child, and his mother later married Edward Faucon. Frank married Lois (Alig) on Feb. 1, 1958, at St. Mary's Church in Metamora. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Vicky (Ron) Mahrt of Groveland, Debbie (Mike) Champion of Champaign and Rose (Frank) Pirtle of Monticello; two granddaughters, Nichole and Samantha Mahrt; two stepgrandsons, Jacob and Adam Pirtle; three sisters, Hazel Link of Mokena, Bonnie (Ed) Mayhall of Eureka and Sandra (Bob) Staley of Chillicothe; one brother, George Jenkins of Roanoke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lester Lee Jenkins Jr.; and four sisters, Mildred Monge, Gladys Gallianetti, Dorothy Newell and Virginia Hobson.

Frank was a Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, serving three tours in the Vietnam War, retiring in 1970, and he went to work at Morton Metalcraft as a general foreman.

After his complete retirement in 1992, Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton, with Father Mark DeSutter officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Burial will be in Hickory Point Cemetery in Metamora, where military rites will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Frank's name to Blessed Sacrament Church in Morton.
