Gary Crippen

EAST PEORIA - Gary L. Crippen, 70, of East Peoria, Ill., passed away at 8:27 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at Illinois Cancer Care in Peoria, after a courageous four-year battle with lung cancer.

Born on Sept. 4, 1942, in Centralia, Ill., to Elston and Mary Brock Crippen, he married Marcia Crossman on Dec. 23, 1961, in Benton, Ill.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Marcia; four children, Cathy (Tony) Delinski of Peoria, Carri Miller (Dan Kober) of Pekin, Curt (Barb) Crippen of East Peoria and Craig (Lindsey) Crippen of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Jamie (Taylor) Krick, Brian (Cheryl) Miller, Alex Delinski, Courtney Miller, Morgan Miller, Colin Crippen, Paige Crippen, Carly Miller, Brock Crippen, Faith Crippen and Garrett Crippen; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Carter, Owen and Avery (due to arrive anytime); one brother, Regie (Dee) Crippen of Okala, Fla.; one sister, Kayla (Vern) Jourdan of Marion, Ill.; two nephews and three nieces; brother-in-law, Doug (Laurie) Crossman of Bloomington; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Williams of East Peoria.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

He served in the Marine Corps from 1960 to 1963. Gary was very proud to be a Marine and was a great supporter of the Disabled American Veterans.

Gary retired from Caterpillar in 1994 after 31 years of employment at the Mossville plant as an inspector. He then worked at G & D Integrated from 1996 to 2009.

Gary loved spending time with his family, and nothing made him prouder than the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and watching his grandchildren participate in sports, dancing and acrobatics. He was a die-hard Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching the Bears and Illini basketball.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in East Peoria. Pastor John Hauck will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the funeral home in East Peoria. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, where military rites will be performed by the Marines and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
