MORTON - George L. Chelikas, 62, of Morton, Ill., died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Feb. 14, 1951, in Peoria, a son of Lucas and Mary (Beard) Chelikas, he married Susan Zehr on April 3, 1982, in Morton, Ill.
Surviving are one sister, Lukia Flanagan of Pekin/Elkton, Fla.; and three brothers, Peter (Judith) Chelikas of Canton, Ill., Costa Chelikas of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Michael Chelikas of Peoria. He also leaves behind 10 nieces and nephews, including Nicola Lykam and Jude Uy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Lucas.
George served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Conflict.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, in Morton, as a letter carrier for 30 years retiring in 2011.
George was a member of New Life Christian Church in Morton, Ill. He had a passion for ministry in prison as well as teaching Sunday school and Bible study. George was committed to outreach in the community through Victory Acres and formerly of Twice His in Peoria.
He was also an avid billiard player.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at New Life Christian Church followed by a luncheon at the church. Pastor Josh Trueblood will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at The Wilton Mortuary in Peoria and one hour before services at the church Friday. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
