Gregory Colmone

OGLESBY - Gregory A. Colmone, 53, of 904 Hillside Court, Oglesby, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at St. Margaret Hospital in Spring Valley.

He was born Aug. 25, 1959, in Spring Valley to Frank and Barbara Mickel Colmone. He married Rita Spayer on Nov. 12, 2004, in Las Vegas.

She survives, along with his parents of Spring Valley; two brothers, Ken (Anita) Colmone of El Paso, Ill., and Doug (Teresa) Colmone of Spring Valley; two stepsons, Jason (Mindy) Merriman of DePue and Chad (Ashley) Merriman of Peru; two grandsons, Cole Merriman and Ryan Kalman; and nieces and nephews.

He was devoted to his family, a loving husband, son, brother, stepdad, grandpa and uncle.

He was a graduate of Hall High School and the University of Illinois and enjoyed going to basketball and football games with his family and friends at the U. of I.

He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, belonged to the University of Illinois Alumni Association, the Starved Rock Runners and St. Jude Runners and formerly was the Spring Valley city treasurer, former Spring Valley Rotary Club president, and former board member of the Spring Valley Elementary School.

He was the vice president of the Spring Valley City Bank, where he worked for 25 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, with prayers at 10 a.m. at the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Spring Valley at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Spilman officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Memorial Park Cemetery in Spring Valley. Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 1, at the Barto Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
