FARMINGTON - Harris Richards, 85, of Farmington, Ill., passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 6:20 p.m. at his residence.
The son of Harry and Bertha (Smith) Richards, he was born on March 11, 1928, in Clearbrook, Minn. He married Thelma Louise Murphy on Sept. 5, 1948, in Farmington.
She survives, along with three daughters, Cinda Rogers of Farmington, Kathy Richards of Elmwood and Connie Richards of Brimfield; one grandson, whom he raised, Christopher Wood of Brimfield; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren with another expected in August.
Preceding Harris in death were his parents; one son, Terry; eight brothers; three sisters; and one grandson.
He worked for Schissler Seed Company for 30 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War.
Harris loved to hunt and fish and be with his family.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
There will be a graveside service with burial of ashes on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Leigh High Cemetery in rural Elmwood, Ill. The Rev. Jessica Baldyga will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, Harris would like donations to be made to OSF Hospice or Farmington Rescue Squad.
There will be a celebration of Harris' life after the service at the Farmington Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
