PEORIA HEIGHTS - Hazel A. Ponce, 63, of Peoria Heights passed away at 6:27 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
Hazel was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Little Rock, Ark., to Thomas and Ruby Willowby Smith.
Surviving are three sons, Ismael (Kelissa) Ponce of Aurora, Ill., Melecio (Breah) Ponce of Elmwood Park, Ill., and Rogelio Ponce of Peoria Heights; two daughters, Estefana (Matt) Jesch of Indianapolis, Ind., and Shannon Son of Peoria Heights; 10 grandchildren; and six brothers and one sister, Jeff (Marina) Smith of Pekin, Paul Smith of Pekin, Danny (Sharon) Williams of Creve Coeur, Robert Williams of California, John Smith of Pekin, Joe (Christina) Smith of Pekin and Mary Ann Ceaser of Creve Coeur.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Esteban Ponce; and one daughter, Teodora Ponce.
Hazel loved her family and never missed an opportunity to create loving memories with them. She also enjoyed gardening and took pride in her "Purple House on the Corner." Hazel adored her three dogs Chewy, Bonnie-Roo and Chiquita.
She was a member of the River City Blues Society.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Joseph Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. If planning to attend Hazel's funeral, please wear her favorite color, purple.
