FARMINGTON - Howard L. Johnson, 75, of Farmington passed away at 2:20 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1938, in Hindsboro, Ill., to Virgil and Wilma (Draper) Johnson. Howard married his loving wife of 54 years, Kay Taber, on June 26, 1960, in Oakland, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Kevin Johnson of Key Largo, Fla., Aana (Alex) Giftos of Glasford, Ill., and Ketra (David) Divet of Cape Coral, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna Johnson of Hindsboro, Ill., and Dianna Lust of St. Peters, Ill.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Howard was a funeral director for more than 30 years. He owned Anderson Funeral Home in Farmington, Ill., for 20 years, until he retired in 1997. He was actively involved in Rotary Club and the Moose Lodge for several years.
He was a graduate of Oakland High School and earned a degree in mortuary science from Worsham Mortuary College in Chicago.
He was a member of the Farmington United Methodist Church.
He loved to play golf and also liked playing cards at the Moose Lodge 1571. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and watching his grandson play baseball.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, Ill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, July 31, 2014, at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Huson will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. graveside on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, in Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad and/or the Farmington American Legion Post 140 Baseball Team for uniforms.
