Ike Douell

EDELSTEIN - D. Ike Douell, 63, of Edelstein passed away at 7:11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Chillicothe.

Ike was born Oct. 26, 1950, in Mississippi, the son of Hubert and Marjorie Tyre Douell. He married Karen Hand on Sept. 18, 1985, in Plano, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Sarah (Matt) Beu of Geneva, Ill., Cassie (Alex) Stoller of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Kalie (Phil) Gould of Wausau, Wis.; one son, Taylor Douell of Chicago, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Caitlyn, Gavin, Isabelle, Collin, Ian, Owen, Claire and Sophie; father, Hubert Douell of Mississippi; two brothers, Mike (Paula) Douell of Tennessee and Dennis (Cheryl) Douell of La Fox, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.

His mother preceded him in death.

Ike was a United States Marine veteran. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering, and worked as an engineer for Caterpillar for 45 years, retiring in January of 2014.

He was active in the American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers and American Society of Testing and Materials.

Ike enjoyed the outdoors, shotgun and bow hunting, golfing, fishing and boating. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson around the country. He enjoyed spending time with his family and caring for his dogs. Ike was very handy and was always willing to share his talent with his friends and family.

Ike coached many of his children's youth athletic teams while they were growing up. He also was very involved in the Princeville Boy Scouts as an active leader while his son was young.

Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today, July 16, 2014, at Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Princeville. The Rev. Rex Hendrix will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Cremation will follow service and burial of ashes will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Boy Scouts of America or the Wildlife Preservation Fund.
