James Barrett Jr.

BARTONVILLE - James R. Barrett Jr., 65, of Bartonville passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his home in Bartonville.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1947, in Peoria, Ill., to James and Dorothy (Draper) Barrett Sr. He married Carol J. Kaufman on Nov. 27, 1976, in Eureka, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Carol of Bartonville; two sons, James Barrett III of Bartonville and Jason (Sarah) Barrett of East Peoria; one sister, Joyce Fraley; and his dog, Harley.

James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and worked in the Saw Room at Morton Caterpillar Inc. for 38 years before retiring in 2001.

He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 974, VFW 3883 and the American Legion Post 979, both in Bartonville.

James will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and a great neighbor who enjoyed watching flat track motorcycle races.

A visitation will be Saturday, July 6, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel with a service following the visitation. The Rev. Kent Smith will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service.

Memorials may be made to the Peoria Rescue Mission.
