James Hasty

EL PASO - James J. Hasty, 83, of 301 S. Elm St., El Paso, died at 6:27 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2013, at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

He was born April 19, 1929, in Mackinaw, a son of Clifford and Alice B. Cooley Hasty. Jim was cared for and raised by Harvey and Winifred Wingstirn. He married Mildred J. Webb on Dec. 24, 1952, in El Paso. She died on April 19, 2012.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Susan) Hasty of Greenville, S.C., and Pat (Karyn) Hasty of Kappa; one daughter, Sharon (Herb) Flesher of Gridley; six grandchildren, Thane Hasty of Greenville, S.C., Shannon (Jun) Almero of Buckley, Colo., Travis Hasty of Greenville, S.C., Matthew and Jonathon Hasty, both of Kappa, and Breanna (Scott) Naleway of Bloomington; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Fern Payne and Rowena Howell, both of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in El Paso and the Knights of Pithius.

He was retired from Job Services with the Department of Labor in Bloomington. He and his wife had owned Quality Pak Meats and Hasty's Market, both in El Paso.

Jim served with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso. The Rev. Dr. Tim Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso, with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in El Paso.
